Honouring the forward thinking of a visionary oceanographer
Kostas Nittis was a distinguished scientist and forward looking person, who made an important contribution to European operational oceanography, with a key vision on the strategic importance of a sustained European Ocean Observing System (EOOS). HCMR and PERSEUS organize this workshop to honour the forward thinking of Kostas, his inspiration, his guidance and his dedication.
The 2-day workshop will focus on:
- the challenges for operational oceanography and its applications in view of present and future needs of science and society: key issues that a coordinated European observing systems strategy should address
- the present and future of a sustained observing system in the Mediterranean and Black Sea: gaps and needs; and its sustainability, evolution and coordination.
The workshop will take place at the Divani Acropolis Hotel.
