The very first jellyfish sightings reported from the Mediterranean!

PERSEUS Jellyfish spotting webpage already attained its first “citizen scientists”!

Sightings reporting is very simple  while the help provided is valuable.

The sightings come from Spain, Italy and Greece.

Pelagia noctiluca
was spotted in all cases while Velella velella in Italy and Greece.

Pelagia noctiluca is a stinger and actually most stings in the Mediteranean come from this species. Velella velella on the other hand is harmless to humans but still not suggested to touch. Analytical information on Jellyfish species is available here.

PERSEUS is grateful to all people reported their sightings and welcomes more to join the campaign
