On Saturday September 21 the clean-up event in S.E.F. (Stadio Eirinis kai Filias) Neo Faliro launched HELMEPA's Action Month for the Marine Environment, as part of the Ocean Conservancy 2013 International coastal clean-up campaign.
The event was organised by HELMEPA in colaboration with the Hellenic Recovery Recycling Cooperation HE.R.R.Co. and with the students participation from the Geitona and the Ionio Schools.
PERSEUS project and scientists from the HCMR actively supported the event! They were present to train volunteers in using the “Marine Litter Watch” mobile application for litter recording. The application produced by the European Environment Agency (E.E.A.) is for the first time used in Greece!
During HELMEPA's Action Month, that will last till October 21st, many coastal and underwater clean-ups will be taking place in other environmental events in Greece. The clean-ups are tagged in the international campaign’s map, while regular information is also available at the HELMEPA Facebook page.
All interested in participating as volunteers or organising a clean-up in their close area are welcome to contact HELMEPA’s Environmental Awareness Department; tel:+30210-9343088, environment@helmepa.gr.
