'PERSEUS@ART: Images of the Sea'

The Contest

The PERSEUS Management Office, together with the Careers Office of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) decided to hold an Art Competition in order to introduce the dimension of Art in the Science world and vice versa. A peculiar "marriage" between science and art, where the inspiration and captured feelings will walk alongside towards the exploration of our seas.

The deadline for project submissions was set to be 16 December 2013. Thereafter, an Evaluation Committee representing both ASFA and PERSEUS selected the three winning projects, which will awarded a trip on one of the PERSEUS oceanographic cruises and three artworks awarded distinctions.

The Exhibition 

PERSEUS and the Athens School of Fine Arts showcased the results of the PERSEUS@Art contest in an exhibition entitled “Images of the Sea”. The works aimed to raise awareness on maintaining clean seas in southern Europe.  The Greek national radio station SKAI 100.3 was the communication sponsor, helping promote the exhibition to the wider public.
 
The opening ceremony was held on Friday, 10 January 2014 at 18:30, while the exhibition run through to the 31st of January. The exhibition culminated in an Awards Ceremony on 28 January 2014 at 19:30 where the three winners were awarded the top prizes.

The 3 top prizes were awarded as follows: 

1st prize - Nikos Topalidis: 'Positive-Negative'
2nd prize - Chara Plataki: Untitled
3rd prize - Evangelos Lioudakis: 'The sea in me'

The 3 distinctions were given to:

Stefanos Athanatos (Untitled), Georgia Dimakopoulou ('Litter Fragment'), Eleni Ploumistou (Untitled).
