The Waste Free Oceans event was held on 9 October 2012 in Limassol, Cyprus, co-organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment of Cyprus, on tackling marine litter and a demonstration in the use of WFO trawl systems for the collection of floating marine litter. The event was held in cooperation with Green Dot Cyprus and PERSEUS was represented by Dr. Nikoleta Bellou, the Associated Project Manager of PERSEUS. PERSEUS is taking on a citizen-scientist campaign for 'Clean Beaches' and a fishermen-scientists campaign called 'Fishing for Litter'. For this reason, PERSEUS was invited by WFO to participate in the launch of this event in Cyprus, with the aim to discuss the possible support of PERSEUS, which has already established a working network in this field.
