Prof. Ferdinando Boero (Salento University), Professor of Zoology, Author of more than 200 scientific publications and books. Member of several Journal editorial boards. Co-President of C5 of CIESM. Member of the Council of CoNISMa, Faculty of 1000, MARBEF, Naples Zoological Station. Main research topics: Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functioning; Hydrozoan taxonomy, biology, ecology and evolution; Life cycles; Benthic Pelagic Coupling; Marine Protected Areas; Coastal Ecology; Biogeography; Conceptual modelling of marine ecosystems. Coordination or participation in many national and international projects.


Prof. Serena Fonda (Trieste University), Professor of Marine Ecology, Professional interest: ecology of marine plankton, and marine bio-geo-chemical fluxes, with special reference to the Adriatic Sea. Team leader in about 20 regional, national and international research projects. She is the author of more than 300 scientific works. PI in the EurOcean network, part of 4 editorial boards, reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals and several international projects.




Prof. Nadia Pinardi (Bologna University), Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University, specialised in Physical Oceanography. Associate Professor of oceanography in Bologna University. Associate Researcher at the Climate Dynamics group of INGV for the coordination of an oceanographic group for operational forecasts and marine ecosystem modelling. She has coordinated four major European Projects in the Mediterranean Sea and participated in several other European projects. Author of more than 40 papers in numerical modelling of the Mediterranean Sea.



Prof. Antonio Terlizzi (Salento University), Ph.D in Ecology, Associate Professor at Salento University. His research activity is focused on the ecology of both vagile and sessile invertebrates of marine hard substrates and seagrasses systems. Fouling, invasive species, the detection of the effects of anthropogenic disturbance on marine systems and monitoring the effects of Marine Protected Areas are among his major fields of research. He is actively involved in research programs. He is the author of more than 90 scientific articles.



Dr. Marco Zavatarelli (Bologna University), Research staff member at the Physics Department and at the Interdepartment Center for Environmental Sciences of the Bologna University. He holds a doctorate in Marine Environmental Sciences. Former research positions at Princeton University (USA), the Danish Hydraulic Institute-Ecological Modelling Centre (DK), the International Institute for applied Systems Analysis (A) and the National Research Council (I). His main scientific activity is in the field of numerical modelling of the ocean general circulation and ecosystem dynamics. He has participated in several EU-funded Projects, mainly concerned with circulation and ecosystem dynamics. He is the author of about 30 internationally, peer-reviewed papers.

Prof. Enrico Zambianchi (Parthenope University), Laurea in Physics (La Sapienza University of Rome, Italy), PhD in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography (RSMAS, University of Miami, USA). Presently full professor of Coastal Oceanography at the Parthenope University of Napoli; adjunct professor of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at the RSMAS, University of Miami; external faculty member, School of Natural Sciences, La Sapienza University of Rome.




Dr. Gelsomina Mattia (Bologna University), Research staff member at the Physics and Astronomy Department and at the Interdepartment Center for Environmental Sciences of the Bologna University. She holds a doctorate in Marine Sciences and Engineering. Her main scientific activity is in the field of numerical modelling of the ocean general circulation and ecosystem dynamics.
