Participants

Dr. A.F. Lex Bouwman, Ph.D. in 1995 from Wageningen University. During that period his work started to focus on modelling of river nutrient export to coastal marine ecosystems, since 2002 in the framework of the Global Nutrient export from Waterhseds (Global NEWS) project of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Committee (IOC). Dr. Bouwman is co-chair of Global NEWS and of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic research (SCOR)/LOICZ work group on “Land-based Nutrient Pollution and the Relationship to Harmful Algal Blooms in Coastal Marine Systems”. Dr. Bouwman will supervise the postdoc, focusing on development of scenarios for nutrients from diffuse sources and in wastewater flows which will be used to drive the river nutrient export models.

Dr. Caroline Slomp, Ph.D in 1997 from Wageningen University, in the field of environmental science. Following several years of postdoctoral research focusing on soil chemistry, marine geochemistry, paleoceanography and biogeochemical modelling, she was appointed assistant professor within the Geochemistry group at Utrecht University, in 2004. Here, she initiated various new research lines on the quantitative analyses of nutrient dynamics in groundwater and marine systems in modern and ancient environments. Since 2006, she has been associate professor and leads a research group of 4 Ph.D students and 3 postdocs. She is editor of Biogeosciences and associate editor of Aquatic Geochemistry and has published more than 40 papers in ISIjournals. Dr. Slomp will supervise the postdoc with Dr. Lex Bouwman.
