Prof. Michalis S. Skourtos teaches environmental economics and policy at the Department of Environmental studies. He is Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment [CSERGE] and Director of the Laboratory of Applied Environmental Economics. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Frankfurt and was Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs and Environmental Policy – Greek Ministry of External Affairs and National Representative at the JRC Governing Board. He has published extensively on the socio-economic aspects of environmental and resource use, water economics, ICZM and related issues.


Ass. Prof. Areti D. Kontogianni teaches at the Department of Marine Sciences, U. of Aegean. Areti is a senior research fellow of the Laboratory of Applied Environmental Economics and Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE). She has been involved as principal investigator in European research projects concerning the integrated management of European catchments, the loss of species and habitats in the Mediterranean, the valuation of the endangered Mediterranean monk seal, and management of coastal wetlands. Her current research interests focus on stakeholder analysis, integrated coastal zone management, environmental scenarios and climate economics.

Ass. Prof. Vassilis Zervakis, teaches at the Department of Marine Sciences, University of the Aegean, B.Sc. in Physics, University of Athens and Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography, College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences, Oregon State University, U.S.A. Scientific interests: Small scale processes (internal waves and turbulence), Atmosphere-ocean exchanges and thermohaline circulation, Coastal dynamics through High- Frequency radar observations, Lagrangian techniques, Physical – biological interactions. Participation in more than 30 international projects and 30 publications in peer reviewed journals.
