Objectives |
HELMEPA is the joint initiative of Greek seafarers and ship-owners who declared in 1982 in Piraeus that they voluntarily undertake the responsibility to eliminate ship-generated marine pollution and enhance safety at sea. |
What types of strategies have been implemented to reach these objectives |
HELMEPA's aims are to eliminate ship-generated marine pollution and enhance safety at sea. The Association trains seafarers and executives so that they are aware of safety and the protection of the marine environment. HELMEPA has also launched several environmental projects and public awareness campaigns such as the environmental education of schoolchildren through HELMEPA Junior.
Moreover, HELMEPA supports governments in ratifying and implementing international conventions on the protection of the marine environment. |
