The NGO Mediterranean SOS Network of Greece kicks off its 18th Annual National Beach Clean-up Campaign in Greece

On 24 April 2013, the Greek NGO ‘MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network’ held its launch event on the “18 years CLEAN UP THE MEDITERRANEAN”, with a clear message: “We take part in the solution for a litter-free Environment”.

PERSEUS supports this effort and participated in the event that marks the start of this year's campaign.

The event focused on communication and aggregated results from the systematic processing of waste and record sheets Observation Natural Areas in the period 2006-2012.

Good synergy and adaptive practices were presented in facing the marine litter problem as well as the significance of raising people’s awareness to preserve our natural resources. The closing message was presented through the video on prevention and management of marine litter by Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Environment.

Among the participants were representatives from academic,scientific, institutional bodies and NGOs, journalists, volunteers and others.

2013 marks the 18th year that the MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network is organising the campaign throughout Greece, for all Greek coasts and other natural areas. This year the campaign will be held during the period 01.05.2013-10.06.2013 with the participation of students, teachers, Municipalities, environmental and social bodies, business employees and volunteers of every age.
