INSTITUTO ESPANOL DE OCEANOGRAFIA
Participants

J.L. Lopez-Jurado and Dr. Rosa Balbin [WP1, WP3], are physical oceanographers, with wide experience on hydrodynamic studies in the Western Mediterranean. Main research interests are related to the influence of mesoscale structures on the sea circulation and their variability in the Balearic and Algerian basins. Mr. López Jurado leads a monitoring program (RADMED) along of the Spanish Mediterrranean coast.

Dr. Jesus M. Mercado, leader of the research group ECOALBORAN
, which developed five research projects during the last five years about physical-biological coupling and human pressure effects on the functioning of the pelagic trophic webs in the Alboran Sea. The Group is recently developing a monitoring program of the eutrophication in the littoral fringe of the Spanish Mediterranean Coast in compliance with the Barcelona Convention and is a member of the advisory committee organised by the Spanish Ministry of Environment for performing the assessment of the Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD, 2008/56/EC).

Dr. Dolores Cortes, leader of the research group ECOALBORAN, which developed five research projects during the last five years about physical-biological coupling and human pressure effects on the functioning of the pelagic trophic webs in the Alboran Sea.
